Official World Cup Poster Uruguay 1930

A decision had been made by FIFA two years earlier in 1928 that a tournament be created for all its members and hence the World Cup was born. It was decided that Uruguay, as Olympic champions and the era's footballing superpower, should celebrate 100 years of independence by hosting the illustrious tournament. Many European teams did not compete in the tournament, citing the three week voyage to Uruguay as prohibitive. The home nations of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales all were ineligible for the competition having withdrawn from FIFA membership because of disputes over amateur player payments.Jules Rimet, the Fifa president and brains behind the World Cup, presented the trophy to the winning Uruguayan captain Jose Nazassi and football's greatest tournament was born. This fine print epitomises the era with its art-deco design. As the first official World Cup poster ever commissioned it is a wonderful addition to any collection.

Sugar Ray Leonard signed boxing glove

One of the most famed and talented boxers of his generation, Sugar Ray Leonard dominated the welterweight division for nearly a decade and won a legion of fans after his iconic bouts with Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler.Named after legendary singer Ray Charles, Leonard claimed three National Golden Glove titles and two AAU Championships as an amateur in the 1970s before winning gold in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal after an unanimous decision over highly-rated Cuban Andres Aldama. He turned professional later the same year and three years later he was the WBC World Welterweight Champion after stopping Wilfred Benitez with a technical knockout in the 15th round. It was, however, his fights with Duran, Hearns and Hagler that made his career. He lost his title to Duran in 1980 in a bruising clash in Montreal but he exacted his revenge in New Orleans later the same year to reclaim his crown. In 1981 he met Hearns in Las Vegas in a fight dubbed The Showdown and despite a badly cut eye, Leonard emerged victorious when the referee stopped the bout in the 14th round. He announced his retirement in 1982 but pulled on the gloves once more five years later to face Hagler in Vegas, winning the fight on a split decision from the judges.Leonard was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1997.Own a piece of sporting historySugar Ray Leonard is a true legend of boxing and will forever be remembered as one of the sport's all-time greats.
